What is the process for dental implants?

Step One

At your free initial consultation, we will discuss what you would like to change about your smile.

We listen carefully to your concerns, explain possible solutions, and answer any questions so you feel informed and confident moving forward.

Step Two

We carry out a thorough examination of your teeth and overall dental health.

This includes assessing missing teeth, checking remaining teeth, and taking X-rays.

We then discuss suitable treatment options and outline a personalised plan tailored to you.

Step Three

On the day of treatment, you will visit our Milton Keynes clinic and receive a local anaesthetic to ensure comfort.

A small opening is made in the gum and jawbone, allowing the titanium dental implant to be carefully placed.

Step Four

Once the implant is secure, an abutment is fitted.

This small connector sits on top of the implant and is used to attach your new replacement teeth, forming a strong and stable foundation for your future smile.

Step Five

Your replacement teeth are attached to the abutment.

In most cases, a temporary set is fitted while your permanent teeth are custom made. You can leave the surgery smiling, knowing your final restoration will follow soon.

Types of Dental Implants

Single Missing Tooth

Individual implants are used to replace single missing teeth, and options such as our new mini and midi implants are a good choice for those with otherwise healthy mouths.

Multiple Missing Teeth

Depending on the number of missing teeth, you may wish to opt for multiple single implants or, if your ‘gaps’ are close together, a dental implant bridge might prove a more comfortable and affordable solution.

Full Set of Teeth

There are several options for cases in which a full arch is missing. Dental implant bridges can work well, and for this, we would usually recommend the excellent All-on-4 technique.

I’ve just finished my Invisalign treatment with Dr Aidan to fix an open bite and it’s been a really great experience overall. Straightforward and easy to manage. You do have to stay on top of brushing and care, but I’d still choose Invisalign over braces any day. Being able to take them out briefly and properly clean all your teeth is such a big plus. I’m really happy with the prompt results and the support throughout.

I first visited smile rooms back in April 2025 for an Invisalign consultation also an implant consultation for a missing tooth. The staff at smile rooms were so kind and friendly which was so helpful as it can be so daunting especially when you’re unsure what treatments you’ll need. Maddison helped me work out my treatment plan and was amazing at explaining how the process works and the payment options available which were really flexible to work for anyone. I loved how I was never made to feel pressured into anything and was only ever given advise to go home and think about. I ended up having my implant fitted in may by dr Julian which was a procedure I was really nervous for but he was amazing! I felt so at ease as he did everything to keep me comfortable throughout and gave me all of the information I’d need for aftercare. I have since had the crown fitted and I could not be happier with the results I feel like he really listened to what I wanted the end result to look like and worked with me to achieve that so I’m really grateful! My Invisalign journey was great the lovely girls at reception were really helpful throughout if ever I had to call up with questions. Dr Aidan completed my bonding on my top 6 teeth. again he was super helpful and really helped me with how I wanted the end result to look as I really wanted a natural look. I didn’t really know what to expect and was so anxious as it was a huge change but they look absolutely incredible my teeth are literally perfect I just couldn’t have asked for someone better to work on them for me. They suit my face really well and the colour is lovely natural but white. Overall my experiences with smile rooms Milton Keynes over the past 9 months has been fantastic I can’t think of any faults whatsoever so would 100% recommend to anyone looking to get Invisalign, implants or bonding

On Friday, I had the pleasure to be seen - mind you, in the same day (!!) - by DR YOUSIF ALWAND for a composite bonding treatment to fix the top of a front tooth that had broken off. DR YOUSIF ALWAND took the time to explain the length of the procedure, the procedure itself and answered any questions I had; I felt absolutely informed and in the best of hands and will definitely ask to be seen by him again for any future visit. Overall, all the staff at Reading Smiles tend to go above and beyond to make visits go smoothly; there’s never been a long wait, questions not answered or patients not been assured about the upcoming treatment. I recently contacted this clinic with an urgent dental issue, as I had broken a tooth and needed advice while I was away from Reading. First of all, Elizabeth is the sweetest receptionist I’ve ever met. Second of all, Dr Nigel is the best dentist experience I’ve ever had. As someone with anxiety, and in particular health anxiety, he really made the whole situation so much more comfortable - consistently being attentive to my needs throughout the treatment and ensuring he checked up on me; I felt so well looked after. He also explains everything in great detail, so that I could be aware of all the dental theory and understand what was being done - it felt like a lesson - which just shows how he truly cares about his patients.
